I really like the idea of 37 being a self-centered, insensitive person that only has her own self interest and thoughts as priority with a hint of a god complex. Like many in the arcanist roster, it'd be nice to have more three dimensional characters with their personality not being fully "appealing" you could say.

Given the environment she grew up in after the loss of her mother, people truly did turn to her prowess like a messiah. While she's confident and clearly proud of her capabilities, easily filling the role needed, she's naive and childish, lacking in the "worldly knowledge of matters" and mainly focuses on her work and what she believes is important; numbers and things that can involve herself.

Doesn't help she's raised in a cultish community where her expertise in math is near invaluable, she's a prime number, and the only one that ever tried to see if she'd want to seek things beyond her realms of opinion is her childhood friend who immediately set that thought to the wayside to support 37's greater and more "divine" purpose of sorts.

Read a lot of the Vertin and Sonetto parallels between the two, but Sophia and 37 feels like a more terrible outcome version of the two in the sense that they've been confined too much into their roles and left no room for massive improvements. They're changing, but like their isolation in the island, it stunts their potential to grow in leaps and bounds.

Besides, I just think it's more appealing to have a wide arrange of "morally grey" characters in the suitcase gang who aren't so in it for the betterment of the whole world and just there for their own set goals and aspirations that just so happen to help said world (which there are some and I love the game for doing that).

37's self aware in most cases of people's disdain for her character like 210. (without him acknowledging the fact it's the caste system itself that has placed them in their position and he shouldn't be so bitter about 37 being born into her role like everyone in Apeiron) and I like how she could care less about people's opinions of others to the point she flat out ignores people's opinion over her own entirely. As well as the fact she's slowly learning to start caring about what people say. The baby step growth is what I like to see in these wild mix of complex characters.

I know the fandom will live and hopefully keep going on. But with so many things canceled... it sucks. I swear if Netflix says that it hasn't done well, I will fight because this show is amazing! I really wanted to read the third novelization, and I was so excited about it. Randomly canceling the panel sucks as well. The producers are working so hard and have made an amazing stellar show. I don't actually think phoenix thought miles edgeworth was dead post aa1

- gumshoe must have been way too suspicious (and not crying enough)

- no funeral, nothing, no details, way too secretive

- he literally says that miles was dead "to him" and that he "never wanted to see him again"

- this just makes a lot more sense for his arc i am begging you, aa2 is NOT about phoenix being a poor little guy who is unrightfully betrayed by his friend, aa2 is about phoenix coming to terms with the reality of things and that not everything is always black and white

He WANTED to it to be black and white. He thought miles left me, he's dead to me. But it's NOT. He's in DENIAL, that's the point, that's the whole point. Miles managed to get by on his own. He managed to be okay. Without phoenix

Phoenix had his major i can save him attitude in aa1 and he NEEDED this reality check. He was kind of obsessed with edgeworth (wether romantically or not is entirely irrelevant) and he Literally said he's the only one who can save him. And while he was actually RIGHT, that wasn't the point. The point was that it's not that simple and while he changed miles' life, miles was able to continue living it on his own and phoenix needed to realize that

Yeah the way miles left fucking sucked, but i think they kinda needed that. Phoenix depends a lot on other people, he literally falls into a depression after maya leaves post aa1. Plus, his miles thing was sort of.... Done? Or at least on halt. This was the Reason he became a lawyer and now there was neither a goal (miles) nor someone to walk the path with (maya). This kind of dependancy is Not good. So miles leaving, while it was extremely harsh, way absolutely necessary

And i think erasing the psyche behind this in favor of a dramatic fake death is... Kinda sad

Phoenix was so MAD at miles, That was the point. He was heartbroken because he was left, because he felt betrayed and not because he lost someone. This is a big difference and you can see this SO CLEARLY in the game

Sure, phoenix has a right to be mad at miles, to an extend. But this wasn't about him having a right to be mad, this was about phoenix feeling entitled to miles' personal life and personal development. If you say he thought he was dead, then you erase the whole aspect of Phoenix letting himself be lead too much by his emotions and not thinking rationally enough. WHICH IS THE WHOLE POINT OF HIS ARC IN AA2.

Sure. Grief is also a theme in this game. And i'm not saying phoenix ISN'T grieving miles. And i know that it also parallels the cases in the way of grieving people being consumed by anger. But it's different with phoenix because he's mad AT edgeworth. So it only makes sense for this to be combined with the theme of phoenix Being Wrong because he's Extremely Emotional

If he ends up just being mad bc he fakes his death, what's wrong about that? Of course he's also entitled to being mad at miles for leaving like this, but like i said - it's not black and white (like it would be in a fake death scenario). Miles had his reasons for what he did, he wanted distance and even though the way he left wasn't nice, the idea was truly his right (not saying that miles is not to blame here. I'm just saying they do the weirdest shit but it just always Works)

It also parallels franziska feeling left behind by miles, but that's a different story

Basically yesh i think it's implied that he didn't really think miles was dead and also it would make so much more sense for their relationship and devlopment as phoenix learning to see things with more nuance is literally an essential part of the second game and his entire character arc

I'm back to my Overture brainrot! Lol, who am I kidding, I never left. This story and its potential and canon implications haunt me on a daily basis, to the point I changed a major plot point of my Sandman fic so it would work with Overture. A fic I should be writing instead of this post buuuuuuut let's not go there LOL

I remember we recently discussed it with @writing-for-life, and if I remember well admitted that Morpheus' story would have always been a tragedy, even if things had turned out differently in Overture.

This might be true, but it's fascinating to think of the canon consequences the events of Overture had on Morpheus' life.... Before saying goodbye to Dream, Calliope tells him the Oneiros she knew would have left her to rot. He doesn't seem to disagree, and we as an audience know being a prisoner for a hundred years changed him.

But watching this scene it struck me hard - even though I already knew - that he would have not been caught by Burgess if he hadn't been weakened by the recent events. And the recent events wouldn't have happened if he had killed that star, a billion years ago... And why didn't he kill this star? Because he didn't want to kill another living thing. Because after blowing up an entire planet, he still had compassion in him. So it's fair to say that it's the compassion he had then, that sealed his fate... Had he killed the star like he was supposed to do after blowing up the Vortex's planet, there would have been no need to fix the past.

It's often believed, including by other characters who know him, that Morpheus was nothing but a cruel prick before he was kept prisoner of Burgess. But doesn't the fact that he refused to take innocent lives, and took the risk to let a star live, show that the frontiers between good and bad, and between before and after aren't that obvious? My theory is rather that being kept a prisoner didn't change him, but made him go back to his original state, the Morpheus he was before destroying so many lives: compassionate, and deeply kind.

We aren't told that in the new reality, Dream killed this star himself -ghost Hope just asks the dreamers to live a world where a star died-, but if we admit that he did, this day would have necessarily changed him. If he killed the star that day, it means that he had no compassion left for anyone. It's unlikely that the death of this changed the course of *his* reality that much because when he meets Hope, he was very lonely and even wonders when was the last time someone held his hand.... There's probably not a reality where Morpheus was happily married, of when he gets a happy ending... But it's possible though that in the reality where he showed compassion for this star, he didn't become the cold, cruel Morpheus we're told he was before Burgess caught him. Maybe in this reality, he didn't condemn Nada to Hell... Maybe he was more a listener for Orpheus.... Maybe he kept a good relationship with Calliope...

I mean, maybe that's the real tragedy: that because he showed compassion one day, he paid the high price for it, and spent a big part of his life being someone he never wanted to be....

you ship densu, right? do you get a lot of hate for it? (i saw your comment saying people in 2012 would be hateful about it and be mean to anyone who doesn't ship dennor or sufin, so i guess times haven't changed...) it's so rare to see densu art in this fandom but they are the best nordic ship!!

Thankfully not! I was a lurker in the fandom for a decade and only started posting in 2022 when the English-speaking Hetalia fandom was way past its prime. The remaining active fans had matured and left the ship wars behind them, especially as the fandom's reputation became intensely negative. This spawned the overarching trend in the fandom of "veteran fans cringing at their childhood interests" where the former big ships are seen as too childish, so they either lose their popularity or have their relationship dynamics updated to subvert the "old way".

Take SuFin as an example: The "Sweden stern husband, Finland shy wife" dynamic that was everywhere in the 2010s is now extinct. Sweden is currently the one getting placed into the "shy wife who takes care of the kids and does domestic work" role while Finland is the father of the house. DenNor fell off because it became bad style to ship a country with its former colony (and Norwegians hate it). DenSu subverts the "old way" by putting two masculine guys together, so the modern fandom is relatively cool with it. Unfortunately, DenSu never got its turn in the spotlight, because people quickly figured out that the most subversive thing you can do in a fandom best known for shipping is to not ship.

But don't worry, I have shipped DenSu from the beginning and will keep doing so regardless of how the fandom feels about it. They are indeed the best Nordic ship. Neither of them ruled over the other, and they have plenty of historical interactions to take inspiration from. Also, them speaking Danish and Swedish to each other is the cutest language combination ever. I am not biased.
